Frequently Asked Questions. Terms & Conditions.
If I do get asked a question it is normally one of these addressed below.
But please do contact me if this page does not provided you with the information you might need.
Q. Are all the images on this website work Abbie Hartland Makeup Artist has completed?
A. Yes - these are all images supplied to me by happy brides or photographers with the brides/models approval.
Q. Do you have a premises or are you a mobile service?
A. I am completely mobile for your convenience on your wedding day. I do have a small Cambridge based studio that I open for bridal makeup trials, so for trials only I offer a travel or no travel option.
Q. Do you charge a travel fee?
A. A travel fee is added to all mobile services outside the Cambridge area. A mileage rate of 90 cents per kilometre will apply for bookings located 5 kms or more outside of the Cambridge town centre. This will be calculated and added to your service quote for you.
Q. What products do you use?
A. I will use only high quality, professionally developed cosmetic brands for bridal makeup. Products that I trust will deliver top quality, long lasting, professional results on your wedding day. This means in my kit you will predominantly find MAC, Laura Mercier, NARS, Face Atelier, Viseart and RCMA Cosmetics.
Q. Do you provide a bridal touch up kit? Or do I need to buy a lipstick for touch-ups?
A. All members of the bridal party will be provided with complimentary touch up kits. These include a sample pot of the lipstick used (with applicator), cotton buds, tissues and blotting paper to eliminate any possible shine (particularly relevant with our hot NZ summers).
That said, if you have a favourite lipstick colour that you already own and would like to wear we will absolutely work with that.
Q.How long does makeup usually take on the day?
A. I like to allow 1 hour for a bride on her wedding day. This is a generous time frame, but you are also gifting yourself some very precious time (on what can be a busy morning) to close your eyes and gather your thoughts, before slipping into your dress and walking down the aisle to marry the one you love. All other faces allow 45 minutes.
Makeup is best applied in the same time slot as your hair stylist is working her magic and I just arrive as early as needed. It can more relaxing for you to finish makeup second to last. This allows you a comfortable amount of time to get into your dress, without experiencing the nerves the last hour before your wedding can present in the makeup chair.
Q. How in-advance do I have to book my wedding day?
A. The reality is I can book out up to a year or more in advance, especially during the peak season November through to April. So it always pays to book as in advance as you possibly can to avoid disappointment.
Q. Is a deposit required?
A. A 40% non-refundable / non transferable deposit is required. Your wedding date will not be secured until the required deposit is received. This can be made via internet banking (direct credit) or by branch deposit at your nearest ANZ bank.
Following your deposit you will be invoiced and the remainder of the balance must be paid into no later than a week before your wedding date. Bank account details will be supplied to you upon confirmation of your booking.
Q. Do I need a pre wedding trial?
A. Most brides have a trial and it is highly recommended. Your wedding day will be captured in photos forever so a bridal makeup trial is our opportunity to ensure we get that elegant, natural style just right for you. Making sure you will feel beautiful and entirely happy with your make up on your wedding day.
Collect pictures of looks you like so we can discuss these and what would best suit your personal features, style of your wedding and dress before we start.
Q. Can I have a trial before I book and pay the deposit for my wedding day?
A. You may wait until after a trial to secure your date with the deposit if you wish to experience first hand how I can help you on the day.
I am happy to hold your wedding date (without the deposit) for a period of three weeks only. You must be able to have your makeup trial within these three weeks. If you would like to have your trial any time after this three week period the deposit is required to officially secure your wedding date.
Q. When should I have my trial?
A. I suggested you have your trial approximately 2 to 3 months before your wedding day. By this stage you will have all your planning in place and most especially you will know what your ideal over all look is to be, what your bridesmaids will be wearing and what your dress will look like. It is also a good idea to wait until closer to your date if you are planning on changing your hair colour or dress size, as this changes face shape and skin tone. However, if you would like it sooner or later that is also an option.
Q. What if I am unhappy with my bridal makeup trial?
A. In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with your trial I will be happy to refund your deposit (less the trial charge and possible associated travel fees) subject to the following conditions only:
Your trial is no closer than 3 months prior to your wedding date (I will be turning other weddings away for up to a year for your date) and I am notified of your dissatisfaction immediately (within 24 hours of your trial).
I will of course do everything I can to ensure we are on the same page during your trial and would prefer any dissatisfaction or issues be bought to my attention during the trial. It is not uncommon for small tweaks to be made to your bridal look and these are easily done to ensure you get the look you desire.
I am committed to ensuring my brides are 100% happy with their wedding makeup so we will be more than happy to offer a second trial free of charge if you would like to take that option first (providing the earlier conditions have been met).
Q. What do I do to prepare for my trial / makeup on my wedding day?
A. Please cleanse your face of all makeup residue (including yesterdays mascara), exfoliate and moisturise. If you use a moisturiser with an SPF factor, please make sure it is no higher than SPF 15, as products with high SPF may cause problems with the way your skin photographs.
Q. Do you recommend getting eyelash extensions before my wedding day?
A. Getting eyelash extensions is a great idea if you would like them to last beyond your wedding day. They add length to your existing lashes, but often do not add volume. My package includes individual false cluster lashes and half or full strip lashes with makeup applications, these are weightless and great for adding both volume, length and pop without looking unnatural.
